EDUCATION AND JOB SKILLS
We truly believe that sport has the power to open opportunities.
In Senegal school is not obligatory, UNESCO shows that 40% of the persons (17 - 24 yo) are illitterate, and among these, women are the majority.
Most surfers in Senegal belong to the Lebou coastal ethnic group and come from fishing families. They are often very large families, where children share their youth between fishing, family tasks and surfing.
In this case families ask us to take over the child’s schooling, since the child will be able to participate in a limited way in the home expenses.
without a support after school, most of the children wont be able to pass the year, because circle, with no help at home, teachers who punish them in class, kids quit.
We are focusing to find some way to let them compete outside Senegal and get more experience and keep training and opening our doors to younger ones!
