Riding new waves together 🌊✨
Once again, thank you for being part of the Surfkids Shredding Senegal family!
Back to school and back to the waves!
After celebrating a 99% academic success rate, our students are now back in class and back in the water. Balancing school and surfing isn’t always easy, but their motivation inspires us every single day. Thanks to your generosity, every child received all the school supplies they needed to start this new school year prepared, confident, and proud.
And the good news doesn’t stop there! We were also blessed with brand-new surfboards thanks to our friends at Freeca Surfboards. Beyond receiving new boards, our Young surfers visited the Freeca workshop, discovering the magic behind board shaping, asking questions, and witnessing the passion and craft that go into creating a surfboard.
These last 3 months marks a huge step forward: our new classroom and community space is now up and running!
What started as a dream in our last newsletter has become a reality, and it’s already changing everything.
Thanks to your donations, our surfkids now have: A dedicated classroom, A safe and organized space to store boards, A true home for the program.
Celebrating our champions - leaders in and out of the water
We are incredibly proud to share some amazing news from our Surfkids family. Two of our program leaders achieved a lifelong dream this September:
they became African Surfing Champions, Women’s Champion and Men’s Champion at the Africa Surfing Championships in Angola.
Their success is not just a victory on the waves, it’s a powerful reminder for our younger surfers that with dedication, discipline, and belief in yourself, anything is possible.
🌊 Deguene : Women’s Champion of Africa
Fresh off passing her school exams, Deguene continues to prove that education and high-level sport can go hand in hand. She faces challenges like every young athlete-student, moments of doubt, pressure, and fatigue, but she keeps moving forward with resilience and determination. Today, she stands as a shining role model for young girls in Yoff and beyond.
Ismaila : Men’s Champion of Africa
Between working as a surf instructor and training both physically and in the water, Ismaila built his own routine, one shaped by discipline, sacrifice, and consistency. Whether under the rain or the blazing sun, he shows up, works hard, and leads by example. Today, he embodies what it means to stay focused and committed to your dreams.
For both of them, the journey doesn’t stop here. New goals are set, personal and athletic, and they know that patience, dedication, and heart are the keys to achieving them. After that, they flew to California 🇺🇸, their first time there, to compete in Huntington Beach and catch their first waves in Oceanside. Thanks to everyone who constantly believes in them and supports their journey. Quick update: Ismaila is still out there for the next month, trying to learn as much as possible and find new opportunities.
We are so proud of them, not only for their titles, but for the way they inspire the next generation every single day.
They surf hard. They lead with humility. And they show our kids what is possible.
New Horizons: Celebrating Kane’s Achievements
This month, we also celebrate a very special milestone within our Surfkids family, and it belongs to Kane, one of our young leaders.
Kane has officially obtained his driver’s license, opening new personal and professional opportunities for him and reinforcing his independence. But that’s not all, he also became a certified ISA Surf Instructor, marking an important step in his journey as a coach, mentor, and role model for our program.
We’re also proud to see other members of the Surfkids program following the same path, currently working toward their own driver’s licenses, another step toward greater independence and responsibility.
And we’re proud to share another milestone for our community:
The program has supported the official surf judging certification training that took place at the end of October. This investment helps ensure that the young talent in our ecosystem, can grow professionally in all aspects of surfing, both in the water and on the judging panel, but also strengthens our ties and collaboration with the surf federation, fostering a shared commitment to the development of the next generation of surfers.
Thank you so much for your support, we'll keep you in touch for news of the kids and the association in the next newsletter!
