Surfkids Shredding Senegal is a program dedicated to empowering young people in N’gor and Yoff district’s of Dakar through surfing.

Thanks to our first membership campaign in 2025, we were able to build a safe and dedicated place for our participants to carry out our activities. Additionally, the annual renewals allow us to cover the monthly rent for this place.

We continue to need your support to make all of our projects a reality. Read below what is coming next and what are our goals for the 2026 campaign!

Membership Campaign 2026

Creating Space for Girls in Senegalese Surfing

Our programme is built around four main pillars: surfing, education, job skills, and gender equality. In recent years, we have become increasingly committed to supporting more girls in accessing surfing and building confidence, independence, and future opportunities through the sport.

In Dakar, the ocean has always been part of daily life, yet for many girls it was never seen as a space where they belonged. Surfing in Senegal remains largely male-dominated, and many young girls still face barriers that make participating in the sport difficult – from transportation and financial limitations to limited access to safe spaces and female role models in the water.

Through Surfkids Shredding Senegal, surfing becomes more than a sport: it becomes a space for confidence, community, leadership, and freedom. Every week, more girls are paddling out, supporting one another, and helping redefine what is possible for the next generation.

Accessing surf spots safely and consistently can be a major challenge for many girls in the programme, limiting their ability to participate in trainings and activities. Last year, thanks to the support of our community, partners and sponsors, we were able to get a car and even obtain driving licenses for some of our surf girls, increasing access and independence which can help open new opportunities both within and beyond surfing.

By supporting this campaign, you are, amongst other things, continuing to help  more girls access surfing, education, mentorship, and safe community spaces, while creating opportunities and contributing to a more inclusive future for Senegalese surfing.

The funds raised through this campaign will help us expand access to surfing, education, and opportunities for girls participating in our programme.

Your support will contribute to school fees, transportation to and from surf activities, swimming lessons, surf equipment, and professional training opportunities that help young women build confidence and future career pathways within the sport.

Examples of what your donation can support include:

  • €10 – transportation to surf activities

  • €50 – a contribution towards a wetsuit or beginner surf equipment

  • €150 – a significant contribution towards a beginner surfboard shared by girls in the programme
  • €450 – one year of school fees for a child

  • €550 – an ISA Surf Instructor certification, including an English course and the drivers’ license

  • €1,000 – six months of swimming lessons for a group of five girls

By investing in girls’ access to surfing, education, and leadership opportunities, you are helping create a more inclusive future for the next generation of Senegalese surfers.

Until 2025, we didn’t have a space dedicated exclusively to the association’s activities.

  • When we helped the kids with their homework and lessons, we welcomed them to surf camp.
  • When they were skateboarding together, they were on the road with the cars and motorcycles.
  • When they surfed, they dropped off their gear and often hang out with each other on the beach.

We needed to provide children with a safe, secure place of their own: their safe place! This space that we built in June 2025 is also used for training courses, awareness-raising workshops and panels we organize.

Financing the rental of this space was the main objective of our 2025 membership campaign. The cost was 3,000 euros for the building construction per year. In the first year, a further 1,000 euros were used to renovate it, in particular to set up changing rooms reserved for girls.

With any extra money that we raised, we funded the children’s school fees, because education and schooling are our top priority.

A full school year for 1 child costs €400 (including registration fees, school supplies and monthly payments). Each €4,000 will enable us to pay for a school year for 10 children.

In 2019, we started financing the program with our own funds. We later won some project grants.

However, as the name suggests, these grants are intended for one-off projects. Today, we need a stable and regular source of income to support our association’s major ideas: a safe place, inclusion in surfing and quality education for the project’s beneficiaries.
